GetPlus – Redesigning Indonesia’s Leading Coalition Loyalty Platform

Overview

GetPlus is a comprehensive coalition loyalty program that empowers consumers in Indonesia to earn points from everyday shopping across a wide network of merchants. Users can pool these points and redeem them for F&B vouchers, services, cosmetics, electronics, and lifestyle products.

As the platform scaled to reach 3 million users, the mobile application required a complete, ground-up redesign. The objective was to modernize the user interface, streamline the complex “earn and burn” point loops, and establish a foundational design system capable of supporting rapid, ongoing feature expansion.

The Challenge

A successful coalition loyalty app must handle a massive amount of dense information without overwhelming the user. The primary design challenges included:

01. Complex Information Architecture

Organizing hundreds of merchants, varying reward categories, and multiple earning methods (e-receipts, physical receipt scanning, affiliate shopping) into an intuitive catalog.

02. System Scalability

The previous fragmented interface made it difficult to introduce new features. The product needed a unified design system that would translate seamlessly across the mobile app and internal company portals.

03. Frictionless Transactions

Ensuring that the critical moments of the user journey—scanning a receipt to earn points, and redeeming a voucher at a physical cashier—were completely foolproof and secure.

Design Strategy & Solutions

Establishing a Unified Design System

To bring order to the platform, I created and implemented a comprehensive design system. This involved standardizing a card-based UI that neatly contains complex data (like voucher terms and expiration dates), utilizing a vibrant, trustworthy primary blue, and establishing clear typographic hierarchies. This system not only improved the app’s visual polish but dramatically accelerated the design and development of future features.

Optimized 'Earning' Flow

Earning points is the core habit GetPlus aims to build. To make this effortless, I broke the standard navigation rules by elevating the “Foto Struk” (Receipt Scanning) feature into a prominent, floating action button anchored in the center of the bottom navigation bar. This ensures the app’s most critical action is always accessible with a single tap from anywhere in the app.

Curated Discovery & Navigation

To prevent cognitive overload on the Home and Merchant screens, I structured the content into highly scannable, curated sections.

  • Merchants are grouped into distinct, visually engaging lifestyle categories (e.g., Fashion & Beauty, Groceries).
  • Dynamic horizontal carousels highlight “Favorite Merchants” and “Popular Rewards,” allowing users to discover high-value items quickly without digging through menus.

Gamification & Progress Tracking

User retention in loyalty programs relies heavily on visible progress. The Account and Home dashboards were redesigned to prominently feature the user’s current status (e.g., Silver Tier). A clear, motivating progress bar explicitly details the exact transaction amount required to unlock the next tier, tapping into human psychology to drive continued engagement.

Frictionless & Secure Redemption

Redeeming a voucher at a busy physical checkout counter can be stressful. To prevent accidental redemptions before reaching the cashier, I designed a deliberate “Swipe to Use” (Geser untuk menggunakan) interaction. Once activated, the screen securely transitions to reveal a high-contrast QR code and barcode. Crucially, the UI provides clear, step-by-step instructions (e.g., “Swipe voucher in front of the cashier”), ensuring a smooth operational flow between the app user and the retail staff.

The Outcome

The complete redesign of the GetPlus mobile app transformed a complex, multi-merchant loyalty ecosystem into a streamlined, daily-habit application. By anchoring the experience in a scalable design system and focusing on frictionless transactional flows, the design successfully supported the platform’s massive growth, delivering a top-tier user experience to over 3 million users.
